Annegret Mayer-Lindenberg grew up in Hamburg and received her first violin lessons at the age of seven, but soon switched to the viola. After leaving school, she initially trained as a violin maker. She later studied music, majoring in viola, in the Netherlands with Gisella Bergman and later Garth Knox. She then deepened her musical education for another year with a postgraduate course in ‘Contemporary Chamber Music’ at the Ghent Conservatory (Belgium).
She is very active in the field of chamber and ensemble music, with a particular interest in contemporary music and collaborations with composers as well as historically informed performance practice. She is a member of Ensemble Garage and Kompanie Kammerelektronik. She also works regularly with other ensembles. She plays both viola and viola d’amore.
In 2019, Annegret Mayer-Lindenberg began developing and realising her own compositions and sound installations. This led her to study composition (MA) with Prof. Johannes Schöllhorn at the Freiburg University of Music in 2022, which she successfully completed in 2025. Her pieces have been performed by Sara Cubarsi, Dirk Rothbrust, Daniel Agi, Heni Hyunjung Kim, Duo Zöllner-Roche, Ensemble Garage and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
Besides being a viola player, Annegret Mayer-Lindenberg runs, together with Benjamin Grießhaber, the violin making workshop Grießhaber & Mayer-Lindenberg Geigenbau GbR in Cologne (Germany).
